Avoid
talking to fellow students whilst the teacher is instructing - listen
-
Look
at your partner when executing an instruction
-
ASK the
teacher if you are unsure. It's likely someone else is confused too!
-
Don't be afraid to ask more advanced dancers for a dance
-
Practice
as much as you can after each lesson, don't just disappear home
-
Listen to as much salsa music as possible to help you pick up the beat
|
-
Smooth is better than fancy! A couple of basic steps done
correctly and on tempo is more fun for your partner than a dozen pretzel
turns done badly with the timing all screwed up. Be gentle and avoid
dancing roughly
-
Keep
a towel and spare shirt with you - there's nothing worse than a sweaty
partner!
-
Dance for your partner not yourself and don't monopolize
-
Don't attempt a complex/drop move just because you want to do it, check
to see if there is enough room or whether your partner is capable
|
-
Sit
or stand near the dance floor, so you'll be seen first as the guys come
off the floor
-
Don't
congregate with a group of women. It's intimidating enough for the guy
to come and ask for a dance without the fear of rejection!
-
Don't be picky - drop the attitude!
