funky salsa (previously Chester Salsaholicks) was founded by Mike Mitchell. You can contact him at mike@funkysalsa.co.uk or call him on 07745 747875.

Mike started life as a drummer with Caribbean bands playing soca, reggae and funk. He toured extensively in the Caribbean, US, Canada and Europe – you may find his name on some of your CD’s!

Mike has been DJ-ing for more years than he cares to remember and specialises in Latin and Caribbean music. He has DJ-d in the Caribbean, Belgium and now the UK. Since moving to the UK Mike has been promoting Latin parties and teaching salsa – including his claim to fame of introducing Bachata to the North West! You should see that hip wiggle! Sexy!

For many years Mike has also worked with the Antilliaanse Feesten which is the largest Caribbean music festival in Europe. Since moving to the UK he still returns each year to DJ at the festival.

Ruth

has been dancing for 5 years, taking her first steps in Belgium. Ruth is the face of the Northgate Arena funky salsa Saturday parties and our webmaster. Ruth can be contacted at ruth@funkysalsa.co.uk

Tom

Originally from Edinburgh, Tom has been dancing salsa for about 4 years and modern jive for about 6 years. He's also a closet lindy hopper. Tom teaches our funky salsa classes every Tuesday night at the Bouverie bar in Chester. Contact Tom at tom@funkysalsa.co.uk

JoJo

A Scottish born Chinese salsa dancer... can you get a stranger combination?! Kwai has been dancing salsa for about 3 years, modern jive 7 years. She teaches our Tuesday class with Tom.
